How the joke generator works

Pick a topic, or leave it on All jokes. Each press of Next joke deals one joke from a shuffled deck of that topic, so you won't see a repeat until you have been through them all. The punchline stays covered until you press Reveal punchline or tap the covered balloon, which leaves a moment to guess.

To pass one on, use the copy box. It builds plain text that pastes cleanly into any message. Spoiler gap puts a few lines of dots between the setup and the punchline so friends can guess before they see it, and Add a link lets them open the same joke here. On phones, Share opens your device's own share menu.

Press Keep on the jokes that got the biggest groan. They're saved in this browser only, and the printable joke cards page can turn them into lunchbox notes.

What makes a good dad joke?

A dad joke is short, clean and built on a pun or on taking words too literally. The best ones are obvious the moment you hear them, which is why they get a groan and a grin at the same time. Timing does the rest: pause after the setup, let people guess, then deliver the punchline with a perfectly straight face.

Questions

Who writes these jokes?

Every joke on Giggle Fern was written for this site. They are all family-friendly: no rude words and no jokes at anyone's expense, just wordplay and the occasional truly terrible pun.

Will I see the same joke twice?

Not until you have seen them all. The generator shuffles the jokes in your chosen topic like a deck of cards and deals them one at a time. Only when the deck runs out does it shuffle again, and it never starts the new round with the joke you just read.

What does the spoiler gap do?

When you copy or share a joke, it puts a short "no peeking" line and a few dots between the setup and the punchline. In a group chat that pushes the answer down a little, so friends can have a guess before they read it.
